But Run with Seton Soles and You Won’t Be Fat Tuesday or Any Other Day of the Week!

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

According to Wikipedia, the term “Mardi Gras” refers to the carnival celebrations, beginning on or after Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, referring to the last night of eating richer, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten season.

So, during this month, whether you are preparing to fast, or to be fast, the Seton Soles 5K Run/Walk will serve!

DFWRUNS is helping to organize both a 1-mile and 3.1 mile walk/run again (April 14, 2012) but have broadened our wingspan this year — so stay tuned for some exciting details! We’ve reached an all new runner’s high so keep an eye on the sky as we’ll be soaring over all social media markets to ensure this 5th annual event rises above everyone’s expectations.

The course Monsignor Henry V. Petter took back in 1999 is what sets this race apart from others. He instituted the first Dallas parish based, Office of Peace and Justice, which allowed thousands of Collin County families in need to receive life-sustaining support. Under Monsignor’s guidance, the people of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Plano led and participated in partnerships with churches, community leaders, and public officials to ensure appropriate poverty limits were set for those seeking basic healthcare within Collin County.

In 2008, the Monsignor Henry V Petter Endowment Fund was established and continues as the sole support of Peace and Justice within Collin County today. That same year, the very first annual Seton Soles 5K Walk/Run commenced.

In honor of Monsignor Petter’s passion for running, and as one vehicle of fundraising for the endowment, the first annual Seton Soles 5K Walk/Run also commenced in 2008. All donations and proceeds will help the endowment and its purpose to provide support to families who are experiencing difficulties within our societal structures.

Event Sponsors and Vendors are now being accepted. Registration opening soon! Keep up to speed with registration and other Seton Soles 5K details on Facebook!
